In this Photoshop tutorial, we will learn techniques create reflections or shadows reflected on the surface of the water. This technique is quite helpful for photographers who want to get a more realistic picture when the shadow of the object is reflected on the surface of the water (sea, river, lake or pond). Here the steps:

Open the photo file to be edited in Adobe Photoshop. Note Layers tab, right-click on the Background layer (which is his padlock icon), then click Layer from Background and click OK. Now the Background layer to free layer (not locked), the name "Layer 0" can be changed when the dialog box pops up before clicking OK when the 'unlock' layer.

Create an area for reflection or shadow, which is easy to make the width of the canvas to be twice as large. Click Image > Canvas Size and dialog box will appear (see the picture). Note the columns under New Size, change the unit of measure to "percent" and type 100 on the column height and then click OK. Then look at the boxes marked with arrows on the bottom, click the "↑" (the result will look like in the picture) so that new areas will only be formed just below the original image only.

Here are the results of the formation of a new area for reflection shadows / reflections. Make sure the parts are marked as in the picture above is fitted correctly.

When a blank area of the size of the original picture is ready, right-click Layer 0 and click Duplicate Layer. Photo slide duplicates (in the example layer called "Reflection") to the bottom; click the Move Tool, press Shift and click the arrow "↓" on the keyboard until the image is in the end of the page. Now behind the photo that will be used as a shadow (layer "Reflection"). Make sure the layer "Reflection" is selected (highlighted layer in dark gray), click Edit> Transform> Flip Vertical. Now the shadow layer is in reverse to the original photo.

Create a new layer above the layer "Reflection". Make sure the Foreground color and Background Color Color white black. Click the Pain Bucket Tool and pour the ink into the new blank layer made earlier so that now a white layer. Now go to Filter > Sketch > Halftone Pattern and a dialog box will appear. Note the panels on the right side and fill columns like the example below, when finished click OK. Preview the effects can be seen on the left side of the page dialog box. We will make a groove on the surface of the water through this filter option. The more lines that are created, the more the flow of water is obtained. The more calm surface of the water, the less flow is required (as in the example).

After closing the dialog box, a new layer that was white is now black and white outlines. Still on the new layer, go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur to make finer lines. Scroll to the right side of the parameter to add blur effects, may also be needed when more pixels are struggling with greater image resolution.

Right-click the layer and click Duplicate Layer striped Right and the dialog box will appear. Under Destination, we'll find the Document, select New, and click OK. This stage is to create a new file containing the layer of black and white stripes that had been made, save as the format. PSD and close the new document. Please give the name of "displacement map". Now, delete the layer containing the black and white lines that we created in the beginning (click the layer and click the trash can icon at the bottom right corner of the Layer tab).
Now merge the two layers into one layer remaining single (without eliminating both the original layer) and at the same time by clicking the duplicate layer "Reflection" and then press CTRL + Shift + Alt + E (Windows) or Command + Option + Shift + E (Mac). Thus, we will have a new layer with 2 photos inside. The result did not seem to work in the yard, but the changes can be seen in the Layer tab.

Make sure the new layer selected (highlighted in gray), click Filter> Distort> Displace. Dialog box will appear, please note that this section is creating waves or ripples on the surface of the water. Please use the numbers as in the example below, but did not rule if you want to add. The part that is needed is the Horizontal Scale, so just type "0" in the Vertical Scale and make sure the other exactly as in the example. Click OK and the dialog box will appear, choose the command is displacement map. Then select the file "displacement map" that had been created and click Open.

And here the results so far:

Considering we will create a reflection on the surface of the water, only the photo at the bottom of the groove will be given effect. For that, select the layer "Reflection" in the Layer tab. Click the Rectangular Marquee Tool and begin to create a selection around the photo. To make it easier to determine the exact size needed to make the selection of the photo, please me disable the uppermost layer (in this example named Layer 1) by clicking on the icon "eye" that is located on the left side of the image thumbnail.

While the selection is still active, click on "Layer 1" (the layer in-merge) and click on the Layer Mask icon (located at the bottom of the Layers tab, parallel to the trash icon). We will see the addition of a new (black rectangle and white thumbnail image next to "Layer 1") in the Layers tab and now the picture has improved.

Reflections on the water surface may appear to have little effect blurry and not too sharp or clear. Therefore, the photo serves as a reflection to go through stages of blur. Click the Layer Mask thumbnail image in the Layers tab (click the black rectangle and white). Now switch to Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur, use the size or value previously been applied so the dialog box appears, and click OK.

Indeed, the water can be reflective objects such as (color) original, photo realistic results but require color adjustment on the reflection (remember the sun and weather can affect the color of the reflected objects on the water). Add a bit of color, in the example because the theme of spring lake reflection made it brighter. Add a little blue and make the necessary adjustments so that it looks more natural. Press Alt (Windows) or Option (Mac), click (and press the mouse button) on the Adjustment Layer icon (see picture) and then drag the cursor toward Hue / Saturation. Dialog box appears, click the small box in the Name and click OK.

New layer will be formed and put the "Layer 1" and the dialog box Hue / Saturation will appear (in the version of the example, the dialog box on the right side as shown in the picture). Slide the panels to change colors as you wish, the example below can be used to get the effect of the bright colors of spring water lakes. If the color still looks too 'manipulated', slide the Opacity panel to reduce the intensity of the color.

Save the document as .JPEG format, the results can be seen in the picture below.
